Most common pump installation mistake when fitting a pump to a JOJO water tank.
JOJO, or any other brand of water storage tank is one of the most common places a small domestic water pump will be installed. As a leading pump supplier, we experience many instances where customers will bring in pumps for repair after a few weeks of installation. The homeowner / DIY and even qualified plumbers will often get this one basic pipe setup wrong. The golden rule for water pressure booster pump installation is to NEVER reduce the size of the suction pipe. If the pump has a one inch, (25mm) inlet, the suction pipe from the tank to the pump must be maintained at least one inch, or preferably one size larger. It is also very good practice to ensure the pump is within 1 meter of the tank.
One can reduce the discharge line size if necessary, however the suction of a pump must never be reduced. This has the effect of starving the pump, reducing seal and bearing life. If will often result in cavitation which impacts on the pump body and impeller material being eroded.
